The Henry Martyn Institute caters to the requirements of groups from universities, seminaries, faith based organisation, NGOs, and other secular organisations from India and elsewhere on issues related to understanding Islam and interfaith relations, interfaith enablers programmes, praxis and research guidance and internship.

The purpose of interfaith dialogue is to increase our understanding and respect for other religious systems and institutions, thereby increasing our appreciation for their values.

Tailor Made Programmes

Tailor Made Programmes

HMI offers three-month term courses on Arabic, Persian and Urdu languages. Each course has approximately 60 hours of instruction at four levels: basic, elementary, intermediate, and advanced.

Extension programs

India

On a regular basis, seminaries, colleges and other such institutions request HMI to provide instruction in Islamic Studies as part of their courses. St. Charles Seminary (Nagpur), Satyodayam (Hyderabad), Kripalaya (Mysore), Ishvani Kendra (Pune), Franciscan Institute of Spirituality (Bangalore), Folklore Resources Research Centre (Kerala), St. Joseph’s Seminary (Mangalore) and Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute are some of the institutions that have availed of this opportunity in the recent past.

Overseas

Over the years, HMI has built up strong academic relations with institutions abroad, offering to arrange for lectures or to conduct introductory or specialised courses in Islamic Studies, interfaith relations and other such subjects. These institutions include Crowther Hall – Church Mission Society, Church of Scotland, Luther Seminary, Church of Sweden Mission, Lund University, and the Middle Eastern Council of Churches.

HMI, as the only research institution of its kind in Asia, is exploring ways to make its research facilities and faculty expertise more readily available to seminaries and colleges in Asia and Africa. To do so, HMI plans to develop and advertise more extensively additional specialised courses in major religions, Islam, interfaith relations and reconciliation to various seminaries, colleges and universities in India and overseas.
